I'm not sure. That was my first visit.. I did a little research, but I'll definitely find out..
Delicious vegetarian options. Service is fast and the restaurant is clean.
Very good Ethiopian food!!!
LOVE THIS PLACE! Food is amazing and the service was awesome. I love the people that work there, extremely nice and great people.
Great unique food. Extremely tasty. The crispy fried lamb Yebeg Awaze Tibs was great. The Ethiopian honey wine enet tej is a must have. The Doro Wat or spicy chicken was great as well. However do not go there if you are in a hurry and service takes time as I feel they prepare everything from scratch.
Perhaps the best place in the city for authentic and reasonably priced Ethiopian food! Good portions served on a big piece of injera, the food is tasty and leaves you with that warm satisfying feeling. Service is also fast and staff are friendly.
I think the meat feast for 2 might have been one of the best meals of my life.
Really good food and a diverse mix of locals tourists alike. Service was prompt and the server was very polite and attentive. The portions are large and great for groups.
Great service, great food
Cozy ambiance, good food, if you are not familiar with African food, this is the perfect place to try..
One of the absolute finest Ethiopian establishments in NYC! Delicious food and friendly staff!
Lunch menu was great. I love the freshness and how well the food is seasoned. My meal was vegetarian.
Very nice and accommodating with my Postmates order.
Soooooooo delish. Some of the best I've ever had
Their vegetarian platter is incredible. Lovely place with kind staff and a nice ambience. Highly recommend.
Came here to catch up with my friend. Great friendly atmosphere. Staff is friendly. Food is delicious. We got the meat sambusa and the second meat combo for two. There is nice background music. Not a loud place. There was plenty of room for my baby and his big stroller by the table. No changing table but enough room in the restroom to take the stroller and change baby in there.
This was my first experience eating Ethiopian food and it was great! The service here was lovely. We had a mixed group of meat lovers and vegans and first timers and they handled all of our needs so graciously and were so helpful. The food was delicious and the experience of how the meal is shared was also a very beautiful cultural experience. This place is great, stop by!
This place is like going home and having a meal cooked by your mom and favourite auntie, prepared with love and care. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the injera is fresh.
One of the best Ethiopian restaurants in NY! Definitely worth the ride uptown. Very close to 135st subway station
This place was wonderful. The food was so good and the restaurant had a homey feel. The servers were so sweet and nice and attentive!I can't wait to return!
Go to place. Great staff and food. Vegan meals are so good.
Very good food ! Good prices! Lunch specials are good also!
Friendly staff and delicious food.
A nice quiet ambiance with good food, but I’ve had better.
This is about my 10th time here. Every time it’s been really fresh food. The injera is delicious as well as the lentil sambusa
The first time I had Ethiopian food was here. As a first-timer, I did not know what to expect; there is always a culture shock when trying new cuisine, which is to be expected. The hostess/waitress was super welcoming and helpful. Also, this place has great vegetarian and vegan options. The Abyssinia Veggie Combo is a must-have. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning soon!
Delicious Ethiopian food at reasonable prices! We had the veggie combo with one of the meat dishes and sopped up everything with injera; the last few bites are the best, when the flatbread has soaked up all the sauces and things are getting real messy.Only drawback was the slow service; it took 40 minutes to get our food and a while more to get the bill. The wait staff is very friendly, however, and patiently explained different dishes to us.
Great food!!! Very clean, and intimate environment. Love the evening ambiance. The staff is friendly and professional. Love this place!!!
Food is good but not enough for price
Favorite Ethiopian place in NY! Flavorful food. Vegan combo is bomb. I
Great food and service. Staff is very polite and attentive. Love the calm ambience of this place.
Quiet for Lunch, Nice Portions and Good Food. Simple Place, Efficient, Not Luxurious.
Eating in seems to be more expensive than thier door dash prices. The veggie platter for two is $34, filling, and a very tasty way to try 5 stewed dishes with injera. It's not a fancy place , but they have good service.
Having tried Ethiopian food in Addis Ababa, I have to say that Abyssinia is the best Ethiopian restaurant in NYC. It competes with Ethiopian restaurants in Washington D.C. I have been to many Ethiopian restaurants in the City (Lower East Side, Brooklyn, Morning side, the two other in Harlem on 114th and 151st)—— Abyssinia is consistently the best. The service and ambiance are also great. My favorite dish is the kitfo (spiced raw beef, like a tartar). It’s hard for me to justify eating out at any other restaurant..
Been here twice in the last couple of weeks. The first time we got sambusas, one meat combo and one veggie combo. Pictured is the veggie combo for 2 the second time around. I recommend both. Service is decent/good, not bad but not absolutely amazing. They'll offer you more bread if you finish the first plate. Will definitely come back again for at least a third and fourth time.
This place exceeded my expectations. I am a Harlem resident and I had passed this restaurant on a weekly basis for at least the last 10 years. I went on a date and he chose this place and I am so happy that he did. It's a nice intimate restaurant that seats maybe 30 people. The prices were amazing and the food was even better. I definitely suggest the beef samosas they were amazing. We did a two person meat combo so you get a little bit of everything this is a must try restaurant.
I have to go here a few times a year at least. Great people. Awesome honey wine. Fantastic food.
The food is always very good and flavorful. I haven’t ordered anything I did not like and the wait time for your food is very short. A great place for a date night or if you have friends coming to catch up/visit. I got the Abyssinia meat combo for two and was stuffed by the end of the plate. This can for sure feed 2 adults and a child or even 3 adults.
Loved the atmosphere and wait staff. Food was great.
Good food and great customer service.
One of the best options of healthy vegetarian option in Harlem. And very authentic cultural and food experience.
When I came here, I ordered what I always do when I try Ethiopian: a meat platter and a vegetable platter. Taste was phenomenal, service was great. Every one of the thirteen different items on our platter was on point. I’ve eaten Ethiopian probably twenty times in many different cities and this was one of the best.
As an Ethiopian, I have a very high bar for the food. Although there are many nice Ethiopian restaurant in NYC, I found Abyssinia to be the best of all in terms of authenticity of the flavor and taste. The Kitfo (raw minced meat) is one of the best I've ever had outside Ethiopia. The waitresses are super-friendly with speedy service. And the price is very reasonable! I'm happy this place exists in Harlem.
Great food, slow service, but the definite worst was they never brought us our check! It took ages! And they didn't check on us to ask, etc. Good meal otherwise.
Nice place and very good tasty food
This was my first time eating Ethiopian food with my party of three, the sambusa appetizer was delicious along with the entrees we ordered which were the meat combo and the veggie combo.... restaurant’s atmosphere was chill. Only gripe would be friendlier service, felt like we were asked to leave by the end since they kept asking if we were done or not.
Very delicious authentic food. 👍🏻 Thanks Hermela.
Food is amazing. A bit on the $$ side. Nice environment. And staff are all friendly.
Excellent vegetarian fare. Specifically, the Abyssinian Vegetarian Special for two is a ton of food with a great variety of moist, savory foods. There is a wonderful beet and potato blend in an earthy/smoky sauce, string beans and carrots stewed, spicy lentils, chopped chick peas in a thick sauce, and the star of everything is the collard greens which are well cooked and an excellent blend of bitter and sweet. You'll inhale a plate of this is so good. The service is really friendly too. I have taken my partner there on numerous dates and have never had anything but courteous, attentive service and excellently prepared food.I wish I could give it 6 stars!
No frills neighborhood place. Good Ethiopian food. Friendly service.
I've been there in person and also just had an order online/delivered. The food was just as good delivered as it was in the restaurant. On time and delicious. In the restaurant, I would order the avocado salad (not available on the doordash site) and also the special lamb tibs (lamb not available on doordash either). Collard greens and the green beans are a must also. I love the atmosphere here too. Having been to Ethiopia a few times, I love the pictures of the sites on the walls and the quiet, traditional service and decor. Amasaganaldo! (Thanks in Amharic, spelling not confirmed)
